This evening 4 of us went to Katara to see the Eid festivities. I don't know what you would call it, a performance I guess, of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves. There were enormous puppets of Ali Baba and an eagle and a horse. The eagle was moved around by a crane (there are plenty of those to go around) and when you looked closely, you could see people hanging off the puppets, maneuvering them I guess, although they looked like acrobats. There were probably 1000 people there tonight, most who had driven Toyota Land Cruisers, the automobile of choice due to its intimidating size and ability to drive on sand I suppose, although the former reason is more likely the reason, given the aggressiveness of drivers here.
